What Decent Human Behavior Looks Like

The lost art of being a good sport

I’m thoroughly enjoying the Bernie meme madness, of course. But through it all, part of me can’t help but remember that once upon a time, Bernie Sanders lost an election to Joe Biden.

And what did he do?

Well, funnily enough, he accepted that loss, and came to the presidential inauguration of the candidate he lost to.

And what did his supporters do?

Entirely unbidden, those supporters have taken his photo and his mittens and stormed the internet with hilarious, joyful memes.

And what did he do in the wake of that meme hilarity? The man made made sweatshirts. And his supporters bought those sweatshirts. And with the proceeds, Bernie and his supporters fed the hungry in Vermont.

What a good sport. This is what normal, decent, human behavior looks like. What a lovely reminder.
